Pragmatic idealist.

Mali Locke has almost 20 years of experience working in philanthropy and nonprofit management. Most recently, she was a director of the Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy where she led the center's design thinking and education initiatives. Her portfolio included projects focused on addressing mental health and well-being for adolescents and emerging adults as they prepare to enter the workforce. In her role, Mali provided executive leadership and implementation support to guide the philanthropic and social impact investments of family offices and foundations.

Prior to joining the Institute, Mali started and led the development team at CityBridge Education, securing substantial gifts from the Carnegie Corporation, the Marriott Foundation, the Overdeck Family Foundation as well as individuals and family foundations. Previously, she was the director of the Maverick Capital Foundation in NYC, the philanthropic arm of the hedge fund Maverick Capital. Mali started her career in philanthropy at the Robin Hood Foundation where she was a senior program officer on the education team.

Mali has a bachelor’s degree in French literature from Yale University and an M.S. in organization change management from the New School University. She also has a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Columbia University Business School.

A former New Yorker, Mali lives in Washington, DC, with her son and two cats.
